Longtime Grosse Pointe resident Herman E. Mozer, 85, passed on August 8, 2017. Herman was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Wayne University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and earned a Master’s Degree from Chrysler Institute of Engineering. Herman devoted his life to advancing the automotive industry, working for Chrysler Corporation for 42 years. As a member of the Ramchargers drag racing team, he won the 1963 US National Stock Eliminator Trophy. Herman was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church of Grosse Pointe, Project Hope, Grosse Pointe Historical Society, and the Lions Club. An avid boater, he enjoyed many restoration projects and hours on the water with his friends and family. Over the course of many years Herman single-handedly restored his Grosse Pointe carriage house. Social and outgoing, he loved parties with family, friends and caregivers. As a classical music enthusiast, he was a patron of the DSO for many years. Herman is survived by his sons Roger and Matt Mozer, sisters Johanna Diepenhorst and Heidi Thomas, and former spouse Judie Bailey. He is preceded in death by his parents Anna and Emil Mozer, and wife Lillian Lewey Mozer. Visitation Services will be Friday, August 11th from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Memorial Services will be Saturday, August 12th 1:30 pm at St. James Lutheran Church, 170 McMillian Road, Grosse Pointe. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. James Lutheran or The Salvation Army. Pastor Denise M. Grant will be officiating.
